Check out WHNA’s fresh new look!

Check out the jazzy new logo design for the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association! The new logo brings a fresh, up-to-date, and more colorful “look” for WHNA, while retaining the images we all love of the railroad bridge and the river. Page Hayes of House of Hayes did a great job creating our modern new design.

WHNA will be rolling out the new logo in all its forms over the next few months, and we’d love some feedback from neighbors about how to use the new logo. Maybe some Westover Hills “swag” like t-shirts or coffee mugs? Let’s hear all your ideas.

Here’s a look at the new logo in both color and black & white:

September Yards of the Month awards

Westover Hills looked great in September. Congratulations to the two winners of the September Yards of the Month awards:
4706 Sylvan Road had a lush green lawn (zoyzia grass) which stood out on the block since we’d had high temperatures and no rain for some weeks. The green shrubs were perfectly trimmed and were accented with white begonias. And the window boxes added texture as well as color. Nice job!!!
5000 New Kent Road was recommended by a friendly neighbor. The young couple who live there  really did an outstanding job beautifying their yard and are most deserving of this recognition. They had no professional help and did a magnificent job in a unique design.

WHNA’s Yards of the Month awards wound up in September, but will be back in the spring. In the meantime, there’s the Holiday Decorations contest to look forward to. Stay tuned for more info!

Welcome to the new WHNA Website!

Welcome to our new website! Here we’ll post all the latest info about upcoming events and happenings in and around our neighborhood. We’ve tried to simplify so that information is accessible.

The big change is that you can join or renew membership online – just click on the orange “join” tab in the upper right of the screen.

A big welcome to fellow Southsider Erika Hollen of HollenZoo Designs who created and hosts the website. And thanks to Page Hayes of House of Hayes for designing our new logo.

Finally, a big thanks to nabe resident Lisa Cumbey of Propolis Designs for her help in designing the original website/logo and hosting the website these long years – we wouldn’t be where we are without her.

Yards look great in August

Here are August winners of WHNA’s Yards of the Month project:

5633 St. James Court. The natural layout of this yard minimizes water, allowing native flowers and plants to flourish. In August, it was a summer’s dream as you walked the rock trail through the yard.

5208 Caledonia. This cozy craftsman was both warm and inviting. The wide, shady porch overlooked a lovely yard and beautifully landscaped walkway. The potted pink geraniums were thriving and perfectly complemented the home’s cheery yellow exterior.

2002 Southcliff. This home boasted the “most improved” yard of the season east of the Boulevard. The grass and weeds had been removed and replaced with lots of mulch, and plants such as vinca, ferns, dogwoods. It’s very rustic and natural and is going to be spectacular when it all matures in just a few years. Nice job by the owners.

About the WHNA

Since 1978, the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association has worked to preserve, protect, and improve the quality of life in Westover Hills, a thriving community established in southwest Richmond in 1924. The Westover Hills Neighborhood Association offers a forum for residents to share new ideas and provides a unified voice for residents when communicating concerns and requests to city officials. Meetings, when they can safely resume, are held the second Tuesday of each month and are open to all neighbors.
