Your input needed by 5/28/2020

UPDATE! Please do not comment your opinions here, please email them to westoverhillsna@gmail.com

Hi neighbors, As the city moves forward towards a Phase 1 reopening, there have been suggestions around allowing outdoor dining to expand into parking lots, sidewalks, etc. There have also been ideas around expanding pedestrian-friendly open spaces, which could include public streets.

The City of Richmond is working with Richmond City Council to engage neighborhood associations and merchant associations to get their input on this short-term initiative. Councilwoman Kristen Larson reached out to me on behalf of WHNA to share our feedback. I, personally, like this idea as a way to support our local businesses and keep our community safely connected, but strongly welcome your thoughts as I share a representative voice of our neighborhood.

Please email your input and feedback to me at westoverhillsna@gmail.com by Thursday May 28.

Take care,
Ashley Hall
WHNA President

2019 Westover Hills Home Tour: 5430 Dorchester

This home, featured on the 2019 Westover Hills Home Tour set for Sunday (May 5 from 1 to 5 p.m.), shows what you can do with a mid-century 1952 rancher to create modern and spacious living. Renovations include adding 1,000 square feet, vaulting ceilings, taking out walls to create open living, and reconfiguring the kitchen. The décor is fun, bright, interesting, and reflects the owners’ worldwide travels. Highlights include a wall clock from the Black Forest in Germany, a painting of Asian ladies from Vietnam, a “Persian Pair” glass piece by Dale Chihuly, a barn door opening to the master bath using the original back door of the house, and a beautiful family secretary dating to the 1850s. Local art also hangs throughout the house. These owners also used their creative flare in totally transforming the outdoor living space. The back yard now boasts a large stone patio, bordered curved walls, raised vegetable beds, and a manicured green lawn surrounded by a large naturalized area. Also, to the envy of most city dwellers, the owners created a 3-car “parking pad” off the extended driveway to the rear of their property. Click here for home tour ticket info.

About the WHNA

Since 1978, the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association has worked to preserve, protect, and improve the quality of life in Westover Hills, a thriving community established in southwest Richmond in 1924. The Westover Hills Neighborhood Association offers a forum for residents to share new ideas and provides a unified voice for residents when communicating concerns and requests to city officials. Meetings, when they can safely resume, are held the second Tuesday of each month and are open to all neighbors.
